Education and Outreach Advisory Board
The CHRONOS Education and Outreach Advisory Board (Coordinator: Cinzia Cervato, ISU) helps coordinate, develop, and promote formal and informal educational and community involvement activities that focus on Earth history and paleobiology. This involves, but is not be limited to:
- Identifying existing projects, partnering with existing efforts, and initiating new projects aimed at conveying the concepts of geologic time and Earth history to the general public, policy-makers, students and teachers;
- Organizing sessions and workshops for K-12 teachers at professional meetings (e.g., GSA, AGU, NSTA) in partnership as appropriate;
- Working with museums and science exploratoria to provide expertise, advice and guidance on pertinent Earth history issues;
- Using the public's fascination with fossils and the history of our planet to promote geoscience education at K-12 and college level nationwide and to develop permanent links into museums, etc.;
- Providing materials for the general public and K-12 schools that are appropriate - from written to web-based interactive to virtual reality applications;
- Organizing and publicizing summer internships in information technology and effective human-computer interaction for geoscience majors.
